Design Techniques

HTML

HTML or HyperText Markup Language is the standard markup language used to create web pages.

HTML elements form the building blocks of all websites. HTML allows images and objects to be embedded and can be used to create interactive forms. It provides a means to create structured documents by denoting structural semantics for text such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, quotes and other items. It can embed scripts written in languages such as JavaScript which affect the behavior of HTML web pages.

CSS

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used for describing the look and formatting of a document written in a markup language. While most often used to style web pages and user interfaces written in HTML and XHTML.

CSS is a cornerstone specification of the web, and almost all web pages use CSS style sheets to describe their presentation. CSS is designed primarily to enable the separation of document content from document presentation, including elements such as the layout, colors, and fonts. This separation can improve content accessibility, provide more flexibility and control in the specification of presentation characteristics, enable multiple pages to share formatting, and reduce complexity and repetition in the structural content

CGI

Common Gateway Interface (CGI) is a standard method used to generate dynamic content on Web pages and Web applications. CGI, when implemented on a Web server, provides an interface between the Web server and programs that generate the Web content. These programs are known as CGI scripts or simply CGIs; they are usually written in a scripting language, but can be written in any programming language.

XML

Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a markup language that defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable.

The design goals of XML emphasize simplicity, generality, and usability over the Internet. Although the design of XML focuses on documents, it is widely used for the representation of arbitrary data structures.

ASP

Active Server Pages (ASP) was Microsoft's first server-side script engine for dynamically generated web pages. A server-side dynamic web page is a web page whose construction is controlled by an application server processing server-side scripts. In server-side scripting, parameters determine how the assembly of every new web page proceeds, including the setting up of more client-side processing.

PHP

PHP is a server-side scripting language designed for web development but also used as a general-purpose programming language. It can also be used for command-line scripting and client-side graphical user interface (GUI) applications.

PHP can be deployed on most web servers, many operating systems and platforms, and can be used with many relational database management systems. Most web hosting providers support PHP for use by their clients. It is available free of charge, and the PHP Group provides the complete source code for users to build, customize and extend for their own use.

Java Script

JavaScript is a dynamic computer programming language. It is most commonly used as part of web browsers, whose implementations allow client-side scripts to interact with the user, control the browser, communicate asynchronously, and alter the document content that is displayed. It is also being used in server-side network programming, game development and the creation of desktop and mobile applications.

Flash

Adobe Flash (formerly called Macromedia Flash and Shockwave Flash) is a multimedia and software platform used for creating vector graphics, animation, games and rich Internet applications (RIAs) that can be viewed, played and executed in Adobe Flash Player. Flash is frequently used to add streamed video or audio players, advertisement and interactive multimedia content to web pages, although usage of Flash on websites is declining.

Wordpress

WordPress is an open source blogging tool and a content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. Features include a plugin architecture and a template system. WordPress is the most popular blogging system in use on the Web.

Joomla

Joomla is an open-source content management system (CMS) for publishing web content. It is built on a model view controller web application framework that can be used independently of the CMS.

Joomla is written in PHP, uses object-oriented programming (OOP) techniques and software design patterns, stores data in a MySQL, MS SQL, or PostgreSQL database, and includes features such as page caching, RSS feeds, printable versions of pages, news flashes, blogs, polls, search, and support for language internationalization. There are over 7,700 free and commercial extensions available from the official Joomla!

Drupal

Drupal is an open-source content management framework written in PHP and distributed under the GNU General Public License. It is also used for knowledge management and business collaboration. The standard release of Drupal, contains basic features common to content management systems.

These include user account registration and maintenance, menu management, RSS feeds, taxonomy, page layout customization, and system administration. The Drupal core installation can be used as a simple Web site, a single- or multi-user blog, an Internet forum, or a community Web site providing for user-generated content. There are more than 30,000 free community-contributed addons, known as contributed modules, available to alter and extend Drupal's core capabilities and add new features or customize Drupal's behavior and appearance.

Magento

Magento is an open-source content management system for e-commerce web sites. Magento employs the MySQL relational database management system, the PHP programming language, and elements of the Zend Framework. It applies the conventions of object oriented programming and model view controller architecture. Magento also uses the entity attribute value model to store data.
